Ancient Greek medicine today
Ancient Greek medicine, traditionally considered as the source of modern medicine, is still largely unknown, however paradoxical this might seem. Only half of the manuscripts that transmitted the works of ancient physicians have been studied. The iMouseion platform MediManus is a virtual thematic library of Greek medical manuscripts. It provides access to their digital reproductions, together with original scientific information on both these manuscripts and the works they transmitted through the centuries. A publication of the Center for Hellenic Studies and a virtual research environment of a new type, it aims to bring the entirety of the Greek medical heritage to the 21st century, revitalize the study of ancient Greek medicine, and generate renewed medical research treasuring the ancient Greek legacy.
